What Is Xiu Xin Yang Xing And How To Do It?
Author: Siem Sit Cong Translated by: D. Wijaya
We learn Tao / Dao ( ) is to revise ourselves / Xiu Xin Yang Xing, that covers our physic and mental, this process is so called Xiu Dao. In this Xiu Dao the first thing that we have to revise is Ren Dao, that is how our attitude and behavior are as human being, moreover how we are going to see and act to a matter. If the Ren Dao as the main foundation has been understood, then we can learn a higher religious knowledge. This is for the sake of taking care of our own characters as human being, so that we won't lose them.
We as a human is mostly only think of a personal's urgency / needs and benefit or a group's, this is because we follow according our egoistic point of view, however, if we try to think as a third person (who doesn't have any purpose, in terms of benefits and loses), our point of view or our assumption will differ. This is what so called the inner self.
In hearing, solving and doing things, we have to use our ratio, and that ratio is come out of our life experiences, these experiences are got from reading, listening, observing even experiencing incidence in going through this life.
When we revise ourselves is not only on the physical health that to be revised, moreover the most important is to train / build up the inner self and the ratio, and it needs honesty and guts for always doing self-introspection.
Among the creatures in this world, human being is the most creative. This is not because of human is smart, instead his heart is sensitive. The heart is the activator motor that brings about desire and passion. The desire instructs to the brain and all organs to attempt / do whatever things are desired about.
Therefore, we know that the heart is the commander of all of our desires and feelings. That is why when we Xiu Dao, the main point is learning to control our heart; don't let it has negative feelings or desires, so that the mind will become clear and the heart will be calm as well.
Our heart is the central reservoir and coordinator of all sorts of feelings and desires. For instance, happiness, furious, sadness, cheerful, love, misdeed and desires are usually called Jik Jing (the seven feelings). Also fond of glamorous life, to compete in achievement (fame), smells strong fragrance, enjoying delicious food, get complements and, showing off the superiority are usually called Liuk Yi (the six desires).
So in Xiu Dao, besides of revising the heart, yet there is something else to be revised too, that is the character, which is formed out of our own nature. Therefore we are not able to revise it totally. Usually it is only can be done by the way of controlling it, which is commonly called etiquette. For example, in socializing, we have to be able to position and control ourselves.
Since we are socializing with others; who are also have the heart just like us, which also accommodate that seven feelings and six desires, so whatever we don't like, neither do they, and vice versa. This is the most important subject in Xiu Dao for us as a beginner.
